Harley-Davidson Sportster S launched in India: price, specs, features, details

The Harley-Davidson Sportster S started life as the 1250 Custom and that’s why most of the styling is the same between the two bikes.

The new Harley-Davidson Sportster S was launched very recently during the 2021 India Bike Week (IBW). The new model has a starting price of Rs 15.51 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is the second bike based on the company’s new Revolution Max 1250 platform, as it also underpins the Pan America 1250 ADV. Moreover, the new Sportster S is also the second bike to be launched after Harley announced its association with Hero MotoCorp in India. The new Harley-Davidson Sportster S is powered by a 1,252cc V-twin engine that is now supposed to develop more torque lower in the rev range, but compromises on power output.

To be precise, the Sportster S engine is good at delivering 121hp and 127Nm of power and torque respectively. The new model’s suspension system includes 43mm Showa inverted forks up front and a monoshock superimposed reservoir with remote preload adjustment at the rear. The motorcycle has a 4-inch TFT instrument console which also supports Bluetooth connectivity. Additionally, the Sportster S comes with full LED lighting.

For those not in the know, the Harley-Davidson Sportster S started its life cycle as a 1250 Custom and that’s why most of the styling is the same between the two bikes. Key visual highlights of the new model include a trimmed front fender and rear section, as well as a raised exhaust, a muscular stance and, not to mention, the unique saddle.

Speaking at the launch, Ravi Avaur, head of Harley-Davidson’s business unit, Hero MotoCorp, said Sportster models have been the foundation upon which the Harley-Davidson brand has been built in India. He further adds that along with the new Pan America 1250, the Sportster S will strengthen the Harley-Davidson product portfolio and appeal to a wider range of Indian customers.
