Nordest Cycles presents the new Bardino 2 steel hardtail enduro mountain bike



Nordest Cycles is a small brand based in the Canary Islands, where you can ride all year round and produce RIBs for almost any eventuality, from gravel and biking to enduro racing. The latter has proven himself in enduro series such as the Finnish Hardtail Enduro Cup, where he was the champion, with a rider of course.

They make their frames out of titanium or chromoly steel and some of their frames even include gearboxes. One of the guys at the helm is seasoned frame builder Pedro Jerónimo and his latest model is the Bardino 2 which builds on their original Bardino hardtail introduced 2 years ago. It was their best-selling frame, and it has aggressive track riding and enduro racing in its steel heart.

If Nordest’s numbers are correct, you should never be too far away from any of their Bardino hardtails. With 600 sold in 46 different countries in 2 years this shows the popularity of the frame. No big numbers compared to your more corporate brands, but extremely impressive considering the size of Nordest.

Frame details

Made from 4130 chromoly steel and using double butted tubing, the Bardino 2 is designed around a 160mm fork, but allows everything from 140mm to 170mm. There is room in the frame for tires up to 29 x 2.8 “or 27.5 x 3”, depending on your preference.

There are replaceable and neat thru axle dropouts (12 x 148mm spacing) and they worked on a new CNC seatstay yoke as an improvement over the previous frame. The head tube is designed for a TR44 headset, which allows tapered forks to be used in the straight 44mm tube.

Cable routing is completely external except for the seat post which enters the frame through a small hole at the bottom of the seat tube. The seat post diameter is 31.6mm. The frame includes 3 bottle cage holders, 2 inside the main frame and one on the underside of the down tube. So you will be sorted for hydration or even spares with a bolt-on strap. The ISCG tabs are also there. This is a sleek frame with the top tube and seatstay generating a single line from the head tube to stall giving good stability.

If the standard color is not your choice, a custom paint option is available for an additional charge, but if you can’t find a color you like in the suggested RAL color chart, you might not like it.


There is no hiding bad geometry with a hardtail. But a notable point is that compared to a full suspension bike, the geometry will shift in the opposite direction when racing. The angles of the head and the seat will increase and the range will increase. It is also important that the geometry of the Bardino is shown when the bike is sagged (20% on a 160mm fork), this is much more useful than the static geometry as the changes on a hardtail when a rider jumps above can be quite large.

The frames are available in sizes M, ML and L with span numbers ranging from 444mm to 485mm. Nordest offers a size guide ranging from 168 cm to 193 cm (5’6 “to 6’4”). The head angle is generously loose at 64.5Ëš and there is also a 75Ëš seat angle.

The 425mm chainstays are, well, 425mm. You can make your own call whether it’s trending or not. But that should make it relatively easy to shoot wild maneuvers in the woods or manually move through puddles. Do they have puddles in the Canaries? BB drop is 55mm and should result in BB height of around 309mm with 27.5 x 2.8 “tires and BB height of 322mm with 29 x 2 tires, 5 “.

The Bardino 2 is only available as a frame, including seat post clamp and rear axle, or as a frame kit, including Cane Creek 40 headset and a choice of Fox 36 Factory or Marzocchi Z1 Bomber .
